Background
Pilates is a system of exercising that focuses on activation of ‘core’ muscles and practicing specific movements. Emphasis is placed on maintaining control of the pelvis and spine in a ‘neutral’ position. Breathing control is linked to the movement to assist in relaxation of extraneous muscle use and speed of movement.
Pilates can be practiced in the form of ‘mat classes’ or on specialist equipment such as the ‘reformer’. At Pilates on Macquarie, both forms will be available depending on your needs. The exercises are used to practice and perfect the activation and endurance of ‘core’ muscles, by working through a program designed to progressively challenge the system at different stages or levels of difficulty.
Why choose Pilates on Macquarie?
1. The highest standard of instruction available – all classes are run by university-trained Physiotherapists or Exercise Physiologists, who are absolute specialists in movement assessment and treatment.
2. Charges are comparable to other Pilates classes run in Sydney, and you may be able to lessen the out-of-pocket expense with your private health-fund rebate.
3. Cutting-edge technology, including muscle assessment with Real Time Ultrasound and the latest, most-advanced Pilates equipment.
4. Classes will be kept small to maintain the highest levels of quality and all equipment will be provided.
How do I sign up?
• Call Jackie or Donna at reception on 9252 5770 to arrange a 30-minute assessment session with your Pilates Physiotherapist.
• At this session, your history and goals will be discussed, and your Physiotherapist will suggest a Pilates plan.
• An initial assessment session is required to view and grade the level of activation and strength of your “core” muscles, including:
Pelvic Floor, Transversus Abdominus and Multifidus
Using Real Time Ultrasound, the same as that used to view an unborn baby, our skilled Physiotherapists are able to view the contraction of your “core” muscles, and give precise feedback on technique. This eliminates guesswork and misinterpretation of instruction.
• Once you have worked out which class is most suitable, payment will be required to secure your position. This is necessary because places are limited. A receipt will be issued, and this can be taken to your health-fund at the completion of the class to receive your rebate.
